Botox

Purified botulinum toxin is injected into facial muscles for the treatment of wrinkles and frown lines. The result is a more youthful and often happier appearance. Results can be expected to last 3-4 months initially and slightly longer after repeat treatments. There is no "down time" after the injections. This treatment is also effective for excessive sweating.

Chemical peels

Superficial peels, also known as "lunchtime peels", are performed in the office for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, skin blotchiness and improved texture. A glycolic acid solution is applied to a thoroughly cleansed and degreased face and left on a predetermined amount of time. Mild tingling occurs though no medication is required. Down time consists of a pinkness to the skin followed by scaling that will resolve within 3-5 days. Make-up can be applied the next day.

Medium depth, or TCA peels, are used to treat more extensive wrinkles, dyspigmentation and damaged skin. The technique is similar to a superficial peel, but there is more extensive redness and swelling. Healing consists of scaling that may last up to 14 days with or without blister formation. Generally patients will want to avoid many activities for the week following a TCA peel.

Your physician will instruct you regarding pre and post-peel skin care, including the use of moisturizers, medicines and avoidance of sunlight immediately after a peel.

Sclerotherapy

Spider veins are the small red or blue dilated blood vessels that often occur on the legs. They are easily treated by the injection of a small amount of a sclerosing solution directly into the blood vessel with a very fine needle. There is usually a minor stinging or burning sensation during treatment, but pain medication is not necessary. Over a period of weeks, the vessel turns into scar tissue that is resorbed by the body. Usually 2-3 treatments are required for maximal results, but a single treatment may result in 40-50% improvement. Your doctor will require you to wear compression stockings for a few days after treatment. Bulging, painful varicose veins are not suited to this type of therapy.

Photofacials

An intense pulsed light system, like a laser but with quicker results, is used to remove the signs of sun damage including sun freckling, red blotches and dilated facial vessels. There is a mild snapping sensation as the handpiece is moved over the treated areas, but no need for anesthetic. Afterwards, the skin may appear slightly pink, but you can return to normal activities. The areas treated will achieve maximal results in 10-14 days and a series of 2-4 treatments are needed.

Hair Removal

Using the same pulsed light system, but with a different handpiece, light energy is directed onto the skin and absorbed by the hair follicle, which leads to its destruction. The procedure is quick and involves the same sensation as a photofacial. While not every hair will respond, there will be a dramatic and permanent overall hair reduction. Hairs need not be visible to be treated and there is no down time. Because of the hair growth cycle, however, an average of 4 treatments will be needed over a 3-4 month period of time.
